I take a systematic approach for logo creation. Starting first with a detailed graphic design brief replete with your ideas and culminating with the delivery of final files. Take a moment to review the process and what you can expect from me.
Logo Brief
1The importance of a detailed brief cannot be underestimated. A solid design brief ensures that no time is wasted, and that you receive targeted logo options from the outset. The brief helps focus attention on the areas that best serve your business, ensuring the final result is appropriate and effective. Download the graphic design brief here.
Mind Map
2I spend a large amount of time considering the answers in your design brief, and then start the research and brainstorming stage of my logo design process. I consider your competition, market trends, differing factors, your history, your future, your current brand, and the one you wish to have. I then begin writing down on a piece of paper every word that comes to mind starting with key words directly from your completed brief. As you can see, the design brief is critical to the rest of the design process. Without accurate and complete answers, my research and brainstorming may fall flat and seem more like guessing.
Sketching
3This brings us to the third step in the process–sketching. Sketching ideas will generate a large number of possible directions. Some and most of them will eventually be made redundant, but the point is to think laterally and not rule anything out right away. It’s a method also used for other design disciplines — architecture, landscaping etc.
Render
4This stage involves scanning sketched ideas into Adobe Illustrator. My goal is to generate at least three solid ideas that I believe will make a strong presence for moving forward. These are the ideas that I present.
Presentation
5At the presentation stage I will send the refined ideas to you in PDF format or will have them printed individually if a face to face meeting is possible. I give you a day or two to look over the ideas and then you decide which one will eventually become your logo. I say eventually because at this stage you may still fill the need for further input and refinement.
Finalize
6I then put the finishing touches on your logo. I take extra care during the refinement process to consider as many possible scenarios in which your logo might find itself. At this stage we decide on colors, make final changes, and consider your logos presentation. I want you to be able to support your logo and business identity so my process is flexible.
Delivery
7I then deliver final files in vector format by email. This format is most often used in print and can be scaled to any size without loss of quality; as opposed to raster format which will become pixelated when enlarged. If you need any other formats or you lose the files I sent you the first time I am more than willing to get those over to you again. Now at this point you are ready to begin building a brand for your business, and hopefully something your business reputation can support.
