A website for your business is a top priority. It’s just as important that your website function properly as much as it is aesthetically pleasing. Please take a moment and review the steps for a successful website or coding development project below.
Goals
1Define what you want your website to do. Each business is different and it’s important to set goals for your website from the very beginning and keep these goals in mind throughout the development process.
Content
2It’s often overlooked in website design, but content is king. If the website looks good, but doesn’t say anything about your business then it’s highly unlikely to help you reach your stated goals.
Mockup
3Once we know what we are trying to accomplish through your site and are hard at work on the content, I will design a few images in Photoshop called mockups in order to predefine the look and feel of your website. It’s much easier to make changes as this point than it is to alter things after development has begun.
Coding
4A solid foundational code will help your site in the long run. I will most likely set your site up using technologies like the 960 grid system and others. Careful consideration will be made for search engine optimization and semantics.
Development
5At this point we will begin to merge your content with our code making sure that each work together to communicate your message effectively. Most of the time I will use a content management system or CMS to make development easier moving forward.
Present
6I’ll show you the site for the first time and it’s going to be almost completely finished. I wait until now to show you anything because seeing your site in development can be jolting for someone not certain about how the web works. It’s at this point that we fine tune your content and site to make sure it coincides with your goals. I might even suggest a beta launch, so we can get some preliminary feedback from trusted friends or colleagues.
Launch
7Once your site is ready, we’ll let the whole world take a look. After launch I monitor your hosting and traffic helping you understand your visitors more clearly. If additional design work is needed it is billed on an hourly basis.
